Opportunities within St. James

Adult Education
Adult Education is
a weekly study of the Bible, often with guest speakers to bring diversity to the
discussions that meets on Sunday mornings at 9:57 a.m.
Altar Guild
The St. James
Altar Guild is in charge of preparing the sanctuary for worship each week. They
take turns serving each month, but do find time to get together the second
Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. to discuss how things are going.
Archives
The archives group
meets twice a month to properly archive St. James items. Have a interest in
preserving history? All are welcome in this group.
Blood Drive
St. James partners
with Memorial Blood Centers (through Bonfire Ministry) to hold approximately 3-4 blood drives each year.
Car Care
Saturday
Car Care Saturday
is a special program that St. James puts on twice a year through a partnership
with Hennepin County Human Services and North Memorial Safe Kids to provide free
oil changes for clients in need that are currently being helped by agencies.
Circles
St. James has
one circle available to women for Bible study and socialization: Mary Circle (meets the third
Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.)
Choir
The St. James
choir rehearses each Wednesday during the school year at 7:00 p.m. and performs at least twice a month
at the 8:45 a.m. worship service.
Church Council
The St. James
Church Council meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Most church
decisions are discussed by the council. A list of current members can be found
on the bottom of the staff page.
Endowment
Committee
The St. James
endowment committee meets as needed to keep
tabs on the endowment funds of St. James. A brochure is available for more
information about endowments.
Finance
Committee
The finance
committee meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. to keep tabs on St.
James' financial situation.
Funeral
Hospitality Team
Volunteers are
needed each time St. James has a funeral to make bars or cake, salads and to
help prepare and serve the food the day of the funeral. The families are always
very gracious for the thoughtfulness of the Funeral Lunch Ministry.
Gamblers
Anonymous
The G. A. group
meets at St. James each Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Golf Leagues
St. James has a
men's golf league that plays each Tuesday, May - July, at 5:00 p.m. at Theodore
Wirth Golf Course. The women's league plays each Wednesday, May-August, at 9:30
a.m. at the French Lake Golf Course.
Kung Fu
St. James host a
Kung Fu group each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. All ages and skill
levels are welcome.
Library
The St. James
library has a work day the third Tuesday of each month to work on a variety of
tasks in the library. The Library Board also meets on a quarterly basis to
discuss items of importance. The library strives to encourage people to read,
especially children. People may check out books, DVDs, videos and CDs from the
St. James library.

Lutefisk Dinner
The Lutefisk
Dinner is always a huge hit at St. James and is usually scheduled for the
Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. Approximately 500 people come through the doors
for lutefisk, Swedish meatballs, lingonberries and lefse. Tickets go on sale in
mid-October and sell out quickly.
Marketing Team
The marketing team
meets as needed to determine the special advertising needs of the
congregation, as well as helping with special projects as needed.
Music Lessons
St. James offers
space for music lessons. Currently violin and piano lessons are
being offered. Please

New Member
Classes
New member classes
are offered on a quarterly basis. Please contact
us for more information about becoming at member of St.
James.
Office Helpers
Volunteers help in
the church office by assembling the bulletins each Friday morning, assembling
the Herald newsletter once a month, and taking them to the Minneapolis Bulk Mail
Center.
Outreach Team
The outreach team
is in charge of putting together inter-generational events, articles and
displays for the congregation to learn more about the different Outreach
Partners St. James sponsors.
Over 55's
The Over 55's is a
social group of St. James members. The fourth Monday of each month the group has
an activity, ranging from going to a play, visiting museums, or going on a
picnic.
Page Turners
Book Club
The Page Turners
Book Club meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. to have a lively
discussion about a different book each month. Books are chosen by the group. All
ages are welcome.
Power of One
The Power of One
volunteers help tutor Forest Elementary School students that need help with
reading and math approximately once a week.
Prayer Shawl
Ministry
The Prayer Shawl
Ministry meets the first Thursday at 10:00 a.m. and the third Thursday at 7:00
p.m. to share patterns, ideas and stories as they knit prayer shawls. These
prayer shawls are brought by a pastor to members that are hospitalized or those
that need special prayers. Beginners are welcome.
Property
Committee
The property
committee meets the first Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the
maintenance items of the church.
Quilting
The quilters meet
the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. to put together quilts
that are donated to a variety of organizations. Quilts that are made are also
for sale, with proceeds going to purchase more quilting supplies.
Ringing Praise
Bell Choir
From September
through May, the Ringing Praise Bell Choir rehearses each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
and plays in worship at least once a month at the 8:45 worship service. All
skill levels and ages are welcome in this group; the ability to read music is a
plus.
Second Sunday
Singers
The Second Sunday
Singers sing the second Sunday of each month at the 8:45 a.m. worship service.
They rehearse at 8:15 a.m. the second Sunday and then sit with their families
until it is time for the choir anthem.
Summer Sunday
Singers
The Summer Sunday
Singers rehearse at 9:00 a.m. every Sunday during the summer to sing during the
worship service that morning. All are welcome to join!
Scouts
St. James plays
host to Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts each month.
Worship
Assistants
Volunteers are an
important part of worship each week. Lectors/readers, ushers, communion
assistants, assisting ministers and special music musicians all make worship run
smoothly. People are encouraged to give it a try.
